There is no questioning that for many years the sport of Time Attack is a sport that was born in Japan and hence a majority of the products seen on the top pro cars throughout the world also spawned from this country. But it would appear in recent years this is changing and changing very rapidly.
With the expansion of the time attack scene across the Pacific into the US and the UK each of these countries has their created their own marketplace for products with top local companies like Cosworth appearing predominately in both of these regions but what is really interesting is the amount of Australian made products that are appearing in some of the fastest pro cars throughout the world.
Check out some of the stuff that is going on with our homegrown Aussie products:
To start with Australian turbo accessory manufacturers Turbosmart have many of their products including wastegates and blow off valves on Sierra Sierra exclusively and this team has been instrumental in providing feedback for new product development.
And like wise with GST Motorsports.
The Cyber Evo was using an Australian made PPG dog engagement gear set for the first time at Eastern Creek last year and there is no doubt this helped them achieve the time they did. They are also rumoured to be switching to a Haltech ECU prior to returning to Australia after the guys from Haltech helped them last year.
The Scorch Racing S15 also has a large amount of Aussie ingenuity onboard with a turbocharger by Sydney based GCG turbos ,an Australian made Hypertune inlet system, a sequential six speed gearbox by Holinger engineering in Melbourne and a host of Turbosmart products to keep it all in check.
GCG turbos have also been instrumental in the turbocharger development in the Garage Revolution RX7 and it is certainly part of the reason that these guys ran so fast at Tsukuba in December. This car also runs an Australian-made Motec ECU.
And likewise their rotary counterparts that competed in the 2010 event, R magic and Panspeed are also using GCG developed turbochargers with Panspeed also using many Turbosmart products including their waste gates as well as an Aussie made Holinger gearbox.
Hypertune products are made in Sydney Australia and these guys also worked through the night last year to ensure that the R Magic Rx7 met the Australian CAMS standards
With the 2011 event coming down upon us faster than you can blink you can bet your bottom dollar that this year will bring more media and more new teams from around the world, this really is our chance to show the world that we can do it as good as anybody else, and here we are only talking about foreign cars, there are also a mulitude of top local cars that are dripping with Australian goodness.
So when you are standing by the fence and you see these lightning quick foreign invaders go flying past, just remember, there is a little bit of Aussie in every single one of them!!!
