We think that one of the most appealing things about the Clubsprint Class at the World Time Attack Challenge is that the average guy can get out on the racetrack in a mildly modified road car and battle it out in front of a huge crowd and media from around the world and thereby attract sponsorship. That is exactly what Bao Mai has done. This car is about maximum fun for modest outlay. Starting with a car that was well ahead of its time in the Mitsubishi Starion helped minimise the modifications needed to make something reasonably competitive. Firstly the suspension has been replaced with trick DMS struts and the brakes have been replaced with 330mm Wilwood units and the wheels will be 17inch fitted with Federal RSRs. The original turbo has been replaced with a TDO5 turbo and a engine freshen with a set of forged pistons. So far this combination has been good enough to secure 2nd in class at the Ipswich West Moreton Auto Club Autocross Club Championship in Queensland against some much more fancied opposition. Bao hopes to continue this trend at World Time Attack and has secured support from Auto parts chain Bursons to help him achieve this.
