Fresh from an outright win at the New Zealand Four and Rotary Nationals, Daynom Templeman has announced he will be joining team NZ in the Tectaloy International drift challenge with his Zenith Motorsport Mazda. Always a fierce competitor in the extremely potent 13B turbo powered RX7 Daynom feels this car will be extremely well suited to the high speed layout of the Eastern Creek and is sure to put on an awesome show.
Since bursting onto the D1 New Zealand scene in late 2008, Daynom has quickly established himself as one of the most talented drivers in the field and whilst he may be fairly new to the sport of drift, he is certainly no stranger to motorsport with a career that started in 1995 with a class win in the NZ off road championship. From here Daynom moved Formula Ford where he placed third in the NZ championship in his debut year. This saw a progression through to career in Formula 3 where he finished 3rd in the championship despite missing he final round in 2001 and an invite to compete in the F3 Super prix in Korea. From here Daynom turned his hand to rally in a Mitsubishi Evo 6 and once again a successful stint winning many national events in particular tarmac rounds and a very respectable third place in the group N International Rally of New Zealand. Then there was the move to speedway midgets and finally Formula Toyota which once again resulted in a podium finish in the New Zealand Grand Prix. In 2009 Daynom decided to turn his hand to drifting in and in the first year finished 4th outright in the D1 NZ series and earned himself the “Rookie of the Year” award.
This team also has a reputation for their professionalism and this is evident throughout both the presentation of the team and the car. With the support of NZ insurance giant this team has not only raced around New Zealand but also competed in the Singapore D1 GP in 2010. The engine is a 550 horsepower 13B turbo built by rotary guru Andrew Fabrin from Rotaspeed and is backed by a 5 speed Modena dog engagement gearbox and a Tomei 2 way diff and Daynom is sure to put on a huge show for the crowd under lights when the New Zealand drift team rolls into town on August 5thand 6th.
