The Esprit team are one of few words but LOTS of action so the minute word got out they were doing a final test day before loading up to come downunder the guys from Option 2 magazine hightailed it down to Suzuka circuit to check it out.
The first thing that was clearly evident from this incarnation was how serious the aero on this car is now with the rear diffuser looking very “DTM” along with the large “box” style wheel well exits the whole rear end has been remade in house from dry carbon.
No question this car means serious business now and in true Japanese style they have managed to construct the aero without losing the identity of the original vehicle.
The engine has had a complete freshen and now makes “well over 700ps and has been tuned for “response” rather than outright power. In a car that now weighs 1130kg wet this will equate to one seriously fast Honda. The fabrication and attention to detail on this build is insane.
Whilst they did not reveal laptimes they were all smiles as Tarzan pulled it back into pitlane for a check over before going back out and cutting a few more gentle laps no doubt getting the feel for the new downforce and vehicle dynamics.
We are unsure if the team will paint the rear of the car before loading next week or leave the raw carbon. Whatever the case this car looks absolutely amazing from any angle and we cannot wait to see it in the flesh.
