The Honeywell Garrett International Drift Challenge began with New Zealand’s Darren Kelly (Nissan GTR R35) and Matt Hill (Nissan 200SX) the first to square off. Kelly came away the winner but would be up against Mad Mike Whiddett (Maxda RX8 SP3) who had the first-round bye, in the second round.

Next out Rob Whyte (Dodge V8-powered Nissan) put Mitchell Jeffrey (Nissan Silvia S13) out and Japan’s Daigo Saito (Lexus) did the same to Ben Meir (Silvia S14). The battle between Alex Sciacca (Mazda RX8) and Anthony Bilic (Silvia S13) went the way of the former, and Cameron Mote (Silvia) put out Adam Monck (S14).

Shane van Gisbergen (Nissan 370Z V8) was too good for Blake Paterson (S15), so too Matt Russell (Toyota Sprinter) on Brad Tuohy (Toyota 86 GT). Josh Boettcher (S15) had it easier when Joel Dimmack (Datsun 240Z) forced a red flag.

It took three runs for NZ’s Cole Armstrong (Nissan G30) to get the decision over Andrew Worth’s Corolla and Luke Fink (Toyota AE86) also had to endure the third run to beat Michael Rosenblatt (Skyline).

Other first round winners were Beau Yates (Toyota 86) over Kris Frome (Skyline), Michael Prosenik (Nissan) over Drew Donovan (Toyota Supra), Jake Jones (BMW) on Adam Davies (180SX), and Dave Steedman (S14) downed Levi Clarke (Silvia).
