The winner of the 2010 Powercruise drift competition, James Abbott, has confirmed entry into the Tectaloy International Drift Challenge. With a drift history dating back to 2004 and a very well sorted car with an extremely powerful new engine package this could well be one dark horse that may just shine on the night.
With support of Sydney based tuning company Boostbitz, James Abbott or “Jabbit Bonks” as he is known in the drift community is now packing a serious E85 fuelled 2JZ Toyota engine in his bright red s15. These engines are synonymous worldwide for two characteristics; big horsepower and serious reliability. And in this case big horsepower is well over 440 horsepower at the rear wheels and enough torque to shred the fattest of tyres in seconds.
The engine is loaded with custom parts too; a Garrett GT3582R turbo sitting on a custom manifold and a custom inlet system built by Aztex. The engine management system is an Adaptronic and the gearbox is a Toyota 154 with a Tomei two-way diff making sure both tyres are ablaze the whole time.
The car has been in development for several years and James has many years of Eastern Creek experience having worked there as a drift instructor. He competed in the 2010 Tectaloy Drift Challenge in the same car (albeiot with an SR20 engine) and the team is expecting much bigger things this year!
James Abbott is supported by Boost Bitz JDM Parts and Dyno, Aztex Equipment, Adaptronic ECU, 3 Fingers Neat and Motorsport Advertising.
