An action-packed Midday Mayhem session has provided a perfect accompaniment to today’s time attack sessions as the sun shines on Yokohama World Time Attack Challenge 2018 presented by Track Warrior.
The first of two Midday Mayhem sessions scheduled for the event featured Burnout Ballet, a drift demonstration, Volkswagen Time Attack, the special running of the HKS TRB-03 – controversially the fastest tin top around Tsukuba – and hot laps from the PGM V8 Motorcyle, the most powerful production motorcycle in the world.
Also taking to the track during Midday Mayhem as the earlier rain cleared and blue skies started to emerge overhead was the Turbosmart Flying 500 Workshop Battle.
This battle is always a big hit with fans and this year has brought the big guns as we look to find Australia’s fastest ‘true’ street car with all the big workshop names bringing their fastest cars.
Seven cars comprising American, Japanese and Aussie muscle took part in the first battle of the performance houses.
Utilising the main straight of Sydney Motorsport Park, the quickest pass was that of Josh Khoury in his B2R Mechanical Nissan Skyline R32 GTR, topping 264 kilometres per hour on his second run.
Second quickest in terminal speed was the Mick’s Motorsport Mitsubishi EVO piloted by Enzo Guarinoni, hitting 257kms with 1238 horsepower at his disposal.
Getting through in around the same speed of 235kms were Robert Marjan (Croydon Racing Developments GTR R32) and Adrian Pazman in his BYP Racing & Develop 670hp Honda-powered Toyota MR2.
Other hot machines punching out runs included the Nissan VR38 turbo-powered Toyota MR2 of Mark Trueno out of GT Auto Garage, and the twin turbo big block 390cu Chev Camaro of Castle Hill Exhaust’s Nathan Farrugia. Then there was the Royal Purple Holden GTSR Maloo of Eian Jones that produced the biggest burnouts at least.
Midday Mayhem will make a return tomorrow, with a special Pit Walk and the Prep’d Motorsport Legends set to join the party alongside all of the entertainers from today’s midday outing.
The Yokohama World Time Attack Challenge 2018 action continues on-track at Sydney Motorsport Park this afternoon, with sessions three and four for the V-Sport Clubsprint, Link ECU Open, Royal Purple Pro Am and Royal Purple Pro classes coming up ahead of the International Drifting Cup presented by Garrett Advancing Motion this evening. With temperatures remaining cool and the rain now cleared, the stage is set for some blistering lap times this afternoon.
