Open Class: Chasers Motorworks Evo VI

Once again we have an ex-Japanese time attack car that has been imported for Open Class time attack racing, this time by Melbourne based tuning specialists Chasers Motorworks.

This Evo 6 was originally the Bozz Speed/ Garage HRS Evo that did battle at several Tsukuba events a few years ago. Once on Australian shores the car was put through a test session at Winton raceway and it was clearly apparent that there was an awful lot of work to do to make the car competitive in Australia so a complete teardown was ordered.

The engine was torn apart and freshened and rebalanced and while the Chasers team were at it they installed a dry sump system giving to ensure 100% reliability under all conditions. The wiring was removed and totally replaced and the early Japanese brand name computer was replaced with a much more user friendly Motec ECU with all the bells and whistles. The Japanese run most of their time attack events in the freezing Japanese winter so most cooling systems will need upgrading for Australian conditions and this was no exception with the intercooler being replaced with a new HKS unit.

And it didn’t stop there either with the turbo being replaced with a new Garrett GT35 on a beautiful steampipe manifold that Chasers offer commercially to their customers. While they had the welder out they moved inside and replaced the Japanese spec cage with a more comprehensive weld in unit. The gearbox then gave up the ghost the ghost so they installed an Albins dog engagement unit rounding out an exception all round time attack package .

The car had its first shakedown at the Evonats where if finished in second place in the highly coveted unrestricted class despite only limited adjustments and this team have some big changes planned before the WTAC.

“And there is no hired guns here mate” added Glenn Trollope from Chasers “all these guys love their cars dearly and they are built for them to drive and enjoy, and the owner of this one Alif is no exception. All of the Chasers vehicles are driven by their respective owners and they are all really looking forward to heading North to the Creek in August!”

About Chasers
With years of experience in the performance car scene, Chasers Motorworks is known for tuning of most makes and models of Japanese, European and Australian cars. Success in all forms of motor sports has proven Chasers Motorworks’s competence in the industry. Their qualified mechanics not only have a passion for performance and race cars, they are also equipped with VACC accredited training to be competent in all servicing, diagnostics and repairs and have a Dyno Dynamics all wheel drive dyno for tuning.

We will let Glenn Trollope – one of the directors explain more:
“One of the major changes I’ve witnessed during my time here at Chasers is the change over of management from Scott to Paul & Glenn and also the opening of Chasers East Side at Mitchem & a branch in New Caledonia. But one thing that has always been part of the culture here at Chasers is what I like to quote from Ralliart – “the spirit of competition”, mainly the intense rivalry between the Evo and GTR drivers for ultimate supremacy on the race track. We constantly strive for faster & faster times & give each other’s camp a verbal beating every once in awhile. But what I really love about this place is that everyone who works here loves their job & that’s what makes the whole experience of being a customer very enjoyable”
