Open Class: PimpJuice/S2 Performance RX7

There is no denying the fact that Australians love the rotary engine. One look at the sport compact drag racing scene in Australia will confirm that and it appears the time attack scene is set to follow suit.

Anyone coming to World Time Attack will experience some of the most extreme examples in the world with Garage Revolution and their crazy carbon RX7 and Panspeed from Japan again trekking over and then you have Mad Mike in the Red Bull/Need for Speed RX7 with a 26B four rotor peripheral port in the drift challenge and a host of other beautifully prepared RX7s in the open class and Trent Levi happens to be driving one of these.

Trent Levi is no stranger to Mazda performance either having spent several years in the drag racing arena including a seven second 13B powered dragster before moving to the time attack discipline and hooking up with energy drink Pimpjuice and the guys at S2 performance.

The series 6 RX7 is powered by a 13B large extend port built by Jason @ REVS together with Clinton Faustman tuning , E85, bosch pumps and Sonic Performance 35/103gtxr turbo the package seems to work making a shade over 350kw at the boots. Gearbox is a factory mazda box with OS Giken close ratio gear set, Exedy twin plate clutch followed by Mazdaspeed two way diff with 4:3 ratio.

The team  run 10.5” Enkie PF01 at all for corners wrapped in the fattest Kuhmo Ecsta V700 305x30x18 tyres which Trent claims has made a drastic difference to the cars handling. These are just the icing on top of the amazing work Brandon from S2 performance does with suspension and engineering of associated components on the car. Brakes are a combination of  DBA rotors Alcon 6 spot callipers and project Mu pads at all corners.

Aero starts with a Full Origin body kit  and carbon accessories supplied by Katie at Savanna Motorsport in Adelaide, all additional aero front splitter, kanards etc are done by Wild RX Motorsport.

After Simon Saunders from Simonbuilt  finished his 400 odd hours doing the custom rollcage we continued on with the task of getting as much weight out of the car starting with new doors, hatch and guards all getting some perspex to help with the task at hand.

The car  has had success from day one getting class win at Mt Alma Mile in 2010, second in class Legend of the Lakes hillclimb Mt Gambier 2010. This year started off just as good with a few second places at the local Time Attack events, a class win at Mt Alma Mile again and taking out the Top Ten shootout at the same event for 2WD. It was also featured on the cover of Fast Fours Magazine.
