Open Class- SKR Evo 6

Whilst the sport of time attack racing may be reasonably new to Steve Knight, motorsport most certainly is not, with a history that dates right back to 1993 in club car racing and includes multiple podium finishes in everything from GTP to Improved Production and includes a 3rd place outright in the 2008 Bathurst 12 hour in an Evo X he shared with Brad Jones and Jason Bargawanna.

You could say that racing is in Steve’s blood and when you couple this with the fact that he also worked for twenty plus years at Mitsubishi Australia in vehicle development you can start to get the picture that this entry is bound to be something pretty special.

As the time attack phenomenon took off in the state of South Australia, Steve Knight made the decision to build a car to showcase the talents of his rapidly growing Steve Knight Racetech business and with his old Evo 6 sitting in the corner that was successfully campaigned in the 2002-3 GTP series the covers were dragged off and the work began in earnest. Starting with a 2.3 stroker kit with CP pistons and a Cro-Moly crankshaft the engine was carefully assembled with a host of BC and Tomei goodies and a Garret GT3076 was bolted to the side to give a power figure of 450KW at all four wheels on ELF E85 fuel.

Backing this is a multi plate Xtreme carbon clutch with a PPG 5 speed dog engagement gearbox, both of which are made in Steve’s hometown of Adelaide. The brake and suspension package consists of remote canister Pro Flex and King springs and OEM brake callipers with one piece rotors and Carbon Lorraine brake pads rounding out what is unquestionably one of the fastest time attack cars in South Australia and we will now see how it matches up to the rest of Australia.

Best of luck Steve! Really looking forward to seeing how the South Aussies go against some of the bigger name interstaters. This car is no doubt one of if not the quickest here in SA, with plenty of potential for faster times too!
