Hankook has been involved in all levels of motorsport for many years – from competing in the Super GT to recently securing the exclusive tyre contract to the DTM series (www.hankooktiremotorsports.com). But it is time attack where Hankook have truly made their mark. Hankook Competition recognises that time attack plays an important role as an emerging motorsport.

“Being involved in one of the newest and fastest growing forms of motorsport places us in an exciting position,” explained William Ng from Hankook. “Time attack allows us to unequivocally demonstrate the performance of our product. The tyres that the big teams race on are the same tyres that anyone can purchase. That’s what makes it so exciting.”

No doubt most of you are aware of the blistering performance Hankook tyres offer, thanks the 2010 efforts of Sierra Sierra and R-Magic. This year the Hankook army has exploded with many teams keen to use the tyres they know are quick. “When some of the professional workshops have invested that much time and money – they have to absolute best, or they wont be in the game” says William. He’s right too, as there’s no point having gone to all that effort only to be let down by an under performing tyre.

The Hankook Competition Open Class really is the tuner showcase of Australia. Many of the top workshops and teams face off against each other in a no holds barred showdown. The Open Class in 2011 features 60 cars – the biggest class in the World Time Attack Challenge. That all said, Hankook will be well represented in all the classes of WTAC.

The Pro Class features the likes of Sierra Sierra, GST, Garage Revolution and Australia’s own Carbon WRX – all on Hankook Ventus TD (Z221) tyres. The Piazza Doro Evo and Brad Trenwith’s RX-7 will be leading the onslaught in the Open Class. Not to be outdone, some of the quickest street cars will be running on Hankook Ventus R-S3 (Z222) tyres the Clubsprint Class.

Lap records were reset by Hankook Ventus TDs (Z221) in 2010. This year, they’ve turned the notch up even more. We can’t wait.
