When your parents own one of the premiere Subaru workshops in South Australia and have a history of rallying you can bet that motorsport is well and truly in your bloodline. That is certainly the case for young Daniel Day. You see his mother; Joanne successfully competed in a Liberty RSR rally car in the SA state rally series for many years with Dad Sean doing the Co driving and vehicle prep work. Sean also drives a 22B WRX and competes in local hill climbs and sprints to this very day and claims to have begun competing at the age of 12!
And hence mother and father have been keen to get their son started early too and that is what they did. You see at the grand old age of 17 Daniel already has five years of competition experience behind him and most recently competed in the first round of the Australian tarmac rally championship with rally and time attack specialist, Steve Glenney doing the co driving and resulting in a unbelievable fourth outright in a very restricted rally car.
Steve Glenney has also taken such as shine to young Dan that he has taken on the role of coach and mentor and believes the kid has the talent to go all the way. “Not often we come across someone like Dan” said Glenney “he is humble, eager to learn and has an incredible amount of natural talent, and I certainly hope I can help him make it to where he wants to go”

The feeling is certainly mutual with Dan commenting “I am very fortunate to have my parents Sean & Joanne from S&J Automotive continually supporting and guiding me towards the best and safest outcomes in my motorsport pursuits. I am also very honoured to have Steve Glenney as my Co-driver and Mentor, Steve has been a huge part of my driving progression over the last few years.”
The car Daniel will be driving is a 1999 WRX Sti type R 2 door prepared by the family business S and J Automotive. It is a powered by a 2 .3litre engine forged internals and a whole heap of MRT goodies see power up to around 300kw @ all four wheels. The MRT parts make a lot of sense as S and J is the SA dealer for MRT power up kits. The clutch is an Xtreme Carbon twin plate and the gearbox is a PPG 6MT dog box with both local companies showing support for this rising young star.

We have had tremendous success tuning late model Subarus and Lancers using the MRT Power kits, which we have been heavily involved in the development of, incorporating the cutting edge technology of EcuTeK ECU Reprogramming. At S&J we are all about tastefulness that’s why with the Liberty, Forester and even late model Rex and Lancer range of performance cars we offer entry level stealth packages, and where an exhaust system is part of the kit, it is in keeping with the class of the vehicle. Our aim is to firstly help inform you of what is available and then achieve the best performance results to suit your needs with no compromise to reliability.
