Controversy in the Pits

With the midday Pro Class session wrapping up, the top 3 cars have stayed behind in the pits. With the cars all at their physical and mechanical limits, they have chosen to stay in rather than risk overheating in the midday sun.

But what’s happening inside the pits? In the early session Sierra Sierra Enterprises were clocked at close to 295kph at the speed trap at the end of the straight.

The Cyber Evo team launched a  protest claiming that it is not possible to reach those kind of speeds without nitrous. Nitrous is of course illegal under the WTAC rules, but surely something like that would have been spotted in scrutineering?

The scrutineers are at the Sierra Sierra garage now. The access has been blocked off to their car and media have been banned from the garage for the time being.

So what’s going on? Will there be scandal at WTAC 2011? Or is the Sierra Sierra car simply getting more traction and keeping more speed through turn 12? We will keep you updated…

UPDATE:
We can confirm now that Sierra Sierra Enterprises are not doing anything outside the WTAC rules and they are simply very, very fast this year. Was it just a tactic employed by the other team to disrupt their opposition? One thing is certain – there are mind games being played in the pits right now, but when the flag drops, there’s only one judging criteria and that is lap time. And the lap time to beat right now is Sierra Sierra’s  1:29:0240.
