When you think of the island of Cyprus you immediately conjure up images of bikini clad women sipping red wine in front of beautiful Mediterranean beaches but we can assure you there is an awful lot more to this European country than just that. Especially if you are into time attack racing.
You see over the last several months the lights have been burning deep into the night at Con Raceworx HQ the town of Larnaca as Con and his team have been busy screwing together two of the most insane Mitsubishi Evos for the Simply Racing team to come and take on the worlds best at in Sydney Australia. We caught up with an utterly exhausted team as they pushed the cars into the container bound for Australia after months of 16-18 hour days.
Con (Con Raceworx):
“After all the hard work to get the cars ready for the event, we lose over a month on logistics, so we will still have some tweaking to do when we get to Australia.
“I just want to thank my entire crew for their immense efforts to get the cars ready in time for shipping, even though we had two and a half months before we shipped, as these are still very freshly built, we burned through that time much faster than we anticipated even with very late nights every night.”
“Special thanks to Andy and Deniz for the funding of this enormous venture that gives us the chance to realise our dreams of competing at the highest level of Time Attack racing in the world.”
Andy (black car):
“I want to express huge respect for Con, Costi, Alex and the rest of the team that have worked long hard hours to put the cars together in all aspects, the mechanical work and the research to make them competitive on a long fast circuit like Eastern Creek, without any testing, wind tunnels or any fancy expensive bits.”
“The cars were not only finished in time but they have been built in such a way that I have full confidence that they will perform exactly as we want. We are arriving from Cyprus with two essentially freshly built cars, that I feel are strong enough to compete with the best cars that the Yokohama World Time Attack Challenge has to offer.”
“The team has provided that Deniz and I have the tools to get the job done, even though in reality the odds are against us, as the cars are freshly built, and have never been driven in anger and without the chance to test or try any setup, we are travelling to a brand new circuit where we will have limited practice.”
“Nevertheless we are confident enough in the cars, our team and our own abilities that we can have a podium finish in the Pro-Am class, and our ultimate goal has to be a podium finish overall.. not asking for much really.”
Deniz (orange car):
“I would also like to say a very big thank you to everybody at Con Raceworx, especially Con, not forgetting Costi, Alex and the rest of the team for making the dream of competing at the World Time Attack become a reality. I have been driving with Con Raceworx now for two very exciting seasons with Andy Papageorgiou, whom Andy, I have to say has been my mentor and well respected teacher.”
“We have been following the Time Attack for some time now, but the feeling to be competing at Eastern Creek for the World Time Attack Challenge is unreal. We look forward to meeting all the fans, drivers and also to be in Australia. Don’t be surprised if Con Raceworx comes away with a podium finish or two. Look forward to meeting you all!”
