It was never going to be an easy chore. Selecting what we thought was the best field of Aussie drifters we could possibly put together for the Tectaloy Drift challenge seemed like a monumental task – even on paper! And then we thought – why not invite the crop of the New Zealand’s D1 competition?.
Our process was by an “expression of interest” where we had an experienced selection panel go through many criteria including experience, recent results, quality of vehicle and overall presentation (you are representing your country after all) and also previous experience at Eastern Creek.
It was an enlightening experience to say the least, firstly because some of the people whom we thought of as “upper echelon” never even sent in a form. Seems like they’ve moved onto other things in life. Second was the sheer number of entries for the people who have moved up the ranks to take over from the past champions. Unfortunately we only had a limited number of spots – so if you’ve missed out, we ask you to stick with us as we are already looking at ways to possibly include a larger field in the future.
With almost three applications for every spot our selectors had to work extra hard, but we believe we have assembled one of the best drift fields ever to be seen on Australian soil. Add to that a 6-car drift team from New Zealand and you know you are in for a drift experience of a lifetime!
So, without any further ado, we proudly present the field for the 2011 Tectaloy International Drift Challenge
