Every time a motorsport event is staged, clear favorites are quickly identified, but seldom is a prediction made as to who the underdog will be. At The Tectaloy Drift Challenge 2011 South Australian young gun Luke ‘Broady‘ Broadbent is more than happy to wear the underdog title with pride.
After bursting onto the scene in 2005, Luke has carved a formidable reputation based on great driving, amazing wheel skills and a killer instinct to win. A regular on the intense South Australian drift scene, as well as events in Victoria, Luke has developed himself a position as one of the best drivers to come out of Australia’s original home of drift.
Luke’s spent a lot of time on the drift podiums, and has tasted numerous successes at the highly competitive Extreme Entry competitions making him one to watch in Sydney. Huge angle, big revs and buckets of smoke make Broady a crowd favorite, and with a Devil may care attitude he might just pull off a few surprise upsets.
Luke is determined to make his mark at Eastern Creek, and his weapon of choice is the highly developed Simonbuilt Nissan Cefiro which is loaded with a 270kW RB25 turbo that makes sure that the 4-door sedan punches well above its weight. Underneath the subtle purple exterior beats the heart of a finely tuned automotive athlete and a reliable and consistant performer. After a dedicated rebuild and refresh program, the Cefiro is will soon be ready to take on the big names in Sydney.
“I’m happy for the spotlight to be on some of the other drivers”, smiles Luke “my job will be to get out there and take them on and beat them one at a time. I know the Simonbuilt Cefiro is ultra reliable, which has played in my favor a number of times, and our focus will be on making sure we are one of the most consistent competitive packages at the event”.
With the underdog tag well and truly attached, Luke is now focused on carving up the competition. Despite being a relatively unknown driver, Luke Broadbent and his Cefiro may just cause a few upsets in the Tectaloy Drift Challenge.
