Welcome to the party Koji ‘MADFACE’ Kitagawa! Japanese-based drifter Kitagawa-san is confirmed to drive the Crazydog Rotorsports BN Sports BLS Mazda FD RX7 at this year’s Garrett International Drifting Cup!
Kitagawa started drifting at the age of 18, over 30 years ago – needless to say he is a veteran in the sport. In the ’90s drifting was mostly on the streets and Kitagawa ran every night in his Toyota AE86.
At the age of 29, he established CARSHOP LEAD, an RX7 specialty store and drift team, an embodiment of his passion for the rotary engine.
The CARSHOP LEAD team have competed in some of Japan’s fiercest competitions including D1 Street Legal, the Drift Muscle series and the Formula D Championship.
Kitagawa and his team have also competed in the very competitive D1 Thailand Series and is no stranger to international competition.
He will be at home behind the wheel of the Crazydog Rotorsports FD RX7, which is built to the same specs as his CARSHOP LEAD professional car.
You may have seen this stunning Mazda out at the International Drifting Cup in 2018 with Drift Zamurai at the wheel. A series 6 RX7 built as a labour of love over many years by Adelaide’s Cliff Clayson it features the latest technology ‘semi-peripheral’ port 13B engine with a Borg Warner EFR turbo making a reliable 550hp at the wheels on low boost with the potential to make much more should the need arise. This is driven rearward via a TTI 6 speed sequential gearbox mated to a Cusco mechanical LSD.
“It’s a true honour to have Kitagawa come to Australia to compete in our RX7,” says Cliff.
“He is a true OG ROTARY FIGHTER, and we are looking forward to having a lot of fun with him at the biggest event in the country.”
