The talk of the town in Japanese time attack circles is a carbon-clad monster owned by a familiar name to WTAC fans: Kunihiko Bando! The Japanese fabricator, engineer, and driver is bringing his all-new B-A-R Joyo Real Estate ‘RSC300’ to the 2025 World Time Attack Challenge at Sydney Motorsport Park this September, aiming to shatter expectations with his purpose-built time attack machine. This isn’t just another Lexus SC300—it’s an entirely reimagined beast, designed with one goal in mind: incredibly fast lap times.

You may remember Bando-san and his previous WTAC 2019 entry in a very similar Toyota Soarer, which secured a podium result on debut with a very respectable 1:29.272 on its maiden voyage around Sydney Motorsport Park. Although they may share some aerodynamic design cues and an identical base shape, Bando-san has told us this is a completely new build. The wider guards and generous smattering of thick-weave dry carbon fibre on the exterior hint at a huge suite of upgrades to the chassis and powertrain underneath.

Moving the engine further back for better weight distribution was a bold move - one that paid off greatly. The shakedown was nerve-wracking, but the car performed exceptionally, setting a blistering time of 51.086 seconds at Tsukuba Circuit. This places him third on the all-time time attack rankings list, bumping fellow WTAC competitor Feras Qartoumy and his Corvette down to fourth. Now, Bando is fine-tuning the setup further, refining every aspect to extract maximum performance for Sydney Motorsport Park.

At the core of Bando’s RSC300 is a meticulously built 2JZ-based engine that blends components from both the turbocharged 2JZ-GTE and the naturally aspirated 2JZ-GE. The latter’s head was chosen for its superior exhaust flow, optimising power delivery across the rev range. Running a Toyota OEM crankshaft, Carrillo H-beam rods, and HKS 87mm pistons, the engine is designed to scream all the way to a 9,000 rpm redline.

A Garrett G42-1450 turbocharger delivers a staggering 2.8 bar (40 psi) of boost, already pushing the car past 1,200 hp. However, for WTAC competition, Bando intends to raise the stakes, surpassing 3.0 bar of boost in pursuit of a top speed down the SMSP main straight exceeding 300 km/h! We can imagine his Turn 1 entry will be a test of nerves for the fearless Bando-san!

All that power is channelled through an Albins ST6-i paddle-shift gearbox, managed via a MoTeC M800 ECU for lightning-fast shifts. A Tilton carbon triple clutch ensures seamless power transfer, while an OS Giken 1.5-way LSD, paired with a 3.769 final drive ratio, optimises traction for explosive acceleration and corner exits.

Bando isn’t just the driver—he’s been the mastermind behind the build. From carbon fibre fabrication to chassis design, welding, and lathe work, he has meticulously crafted the RSC300 from the ground up. His efforts are supported by key contributors, including Joyo Real Estate Co., Ltd., wiring and ECU specialist Mr Sakai, and AutoBahn, which handled the engine assembly.

Bando promises to deliver lap times never before seen for an SC300 at Sydney Motorsport Park. With over 1,200 hp on tap, an aggressive weight distribution strategy, and a relentless focus on pure speed, his RSC300 is set to leave an unforgettable mark on WTAC history.

Kunihiko Bando’s approach is simple: build the fastest car possible and let the results speak for themselves. At WTAC 2025, the RSC300 is ready to turn that philosophy into reality. Be sure to not miss the RSC300’s debut at the 2025 Yokohama World Time Attack Challenge! You can find him competing as part of the 2025 Emtron Australia WTAC Pro Class.
