WTAC 2024: 30TH - 31ST AUGUST

Midday madness: Saturday standings

The 2024 Yokohama World Time Attack Challenge is heating up, and it isn't just the warm winter sun we're enjoying as lap records tumble. We've got hours of racing left, plus all the side-winding mania of the Garrett International Drift Cup left to run well into the night so head down to Sydney Motorsport Park and get amongst this festival of fast.

Bart Mawer in the RP968 Porsche broke his own Emtron Pro Class record on his first lap out this morning, running a 1:17.672 - shaving two-tenths off his class and outright WTAC record.

In Plazmaman Pro-Am Sami Sivonen's R8 1:1 holds a two-second lead over Feras Qartoumy's Corvette. The Finn in the Fat Cat Audi ran a 1:25.16 against Texan Feras's 1:27.13, with Aleck Kazakovski's Subaru third in class with a 1:28.01.

GCG Open has had drama aplenty with Tim Slade putting down a 1:25.935, with the XTREME GT-R having a suspension failure as it crossed the start/finish line. Sladey managed to pull it up safely and we hope they'll be able to fix the car for the Supercheap Auto Shootout session at the end of the day, as they currently lead the class.

Rob Nguyen jumped into second place with a 1:26.31 in the Dream Project S15 Silvia, leading Nathan Morcom's GAS Evo on a 1:27.02 set on Day 1.

After replacing a blown engine overnight, Trent Grubel broke his own Haltech Clubsprint lap record on his first lap of Day 2, with a 1:32.23 shaving another two-tenths off his mark from yesterday. Second-place Alex Michalski pushed his Evo hard in the same session to land a 1:32.53 to stay right with Trent.
